Amid multiple stop starts due to rain delays, GT needed 15 runs from the last over and a single on the last ball. As Hardik Pandya, who led GT to a title, missed a run out on the last ball, his former side celebrated going top of the standings.

GT delivered an excellent bowling display, with all their bowlers contributing. Will Jacks was fortunate to be dropped twice but made the most of his chances, scoring a crucial fifty. Suryakumar Yadav and Corbin Bosch also made quick contributions at the end, helping MI set a competitive total on a somewhat tricky pitch.
In reply, there were steady contributions from Shubman Gill, Jos Buttler and Sherfane Rutherford. Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah bowled well, conceding no freebies to the opposition.
